
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Students at theUT
Health Science Center San Antonio have the right of confidentiality
under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. No
one outside the institution shall have access to, nor will the institution
disclose any information from students' educational records, without the
student’s consent.
Educational
records may not be shared within the university except to members of
departments acting in the student's educational interest and within the
limitation of their need to know.
Individuals with access to student
information may release “directory information.” Directory information is limited to the following:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone number
- E-mail address
- Photograph
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Class level
- Enrollment status (part-time/full-time or undergraduate, graduate, or professional)
- Degrees
- Most recent previous educational institutionattended
- Honors and awards received.
A student may withhold all or part of the directory information, except first and last name, middle initial, school and class, by notifying the Registrar in writing within twelve days after the first day of class.
