Laredo Campus Extension (LCE)
The Laredo Campus Extension (LCE) Administration is responsible for the loan and scheduling of all spaces in the D. D. Hachar and Academic Buildings at the LCE. Included in this responsibility is the assignment of rooms for classes and reservation of space for student, faculty, staff and university events. We also coordinate the housing of University Students who are involved in required rotations in the Laredo community. We are also responsible for Community Outreach to promote the Educational Programs and service available.
The Educational Programs available at the LCE include:
- New Dietetics and Nutrition Program ― To be initiated in fall 2008, this joint program with Texas A&M International University will help meet the demand by hospitals, schools, medical practices and agriculture for dietetics and nutritional experts.
- Oral Health initiative ― Dental students, dental residents, and dental hygiene students receive clinical instruction in Laredo while providing service to the community.
- B.S. in Respiratory Care ― Professionals work with patients who have breathing difficulties, such as asthma, emphysema, and pneumonia.
- M.S. in Physician Assistant studies ― Three-year program for health care professionals who work with doctors to provide medical services. Now students can take first and third year of classes in Laredo and South Texas.
- Clinical Laboratory Science educational program ― Clinical laboratory Science students receive training in Laredo that prepares them for a career in the laboratory. The tests they perform give doctors important information upon which to base their diagnoses and treatment.
- B.S.N. Program ― Licensed vocational nurses and foreign-educated doctors can earn their bachelor’s degree in nursing online.
- South Texas Environmental Education and Research Program ― Award-winning program for health professions students offers first-hand training regarding public health and environmental issues.
- Texas Cancer Registry South Texas/Laredo Partnership ― Data about cancer incidence in the Laredo area is collected through the San Antonio Cancer Institute’s registrar on campus.
- Med Ed Program ― This program is designed to encourage and recruit area high school and college students into the health sciences by providing information and enrichment experiences.
