The UT System Board of Regents requires you to maintain a valid major medical insurance policy while you are a registered student at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. If you do not have your own health insurance policy, you will be automatically enrolled in a group plan chosen by the U.T. System. A student may enroll her/his spouse and/or children at additional cost(s). The premiums vary accordingly.
Waive Insurance fee
A student with her/his own health insurance plan must self-report the details of that plan in the Online Student Center accessible by logging into inside.uthscsa.edu and clicking on Student Administration. This must be done before the first day of classes of each term the student is enrolling. A student who has not reported coverage prior to the first day of classes will be assessed an insurance fee on their account.
How to add a spouse or family
You can enroll your family by using the appropriate enrollment form found On the Academic HealthPlans website. You will see the links to various forms under Enrollment.
Completed forms can be Faxed or Mailed to AHP:
P.O. Box 1605
Colleyville, TX 76034-1605
Fax Number: 817-479-2101
You have 30 days from the start of your plan to enroll additional members of your family.
If you need to enroll an additional member of your family due to a Life Event you will need to complete this form, and then submit to AHP. Examples of such events are marriage, birth of a child, adoption, or if a dependent lost their insurance.
If you are turning 26 and coming off your parents insurance you will be able to enroll in the insurance plan immediately. You will need to complete a Qualifying Event Form and a Monthly Enrollment Form. You will need to enroll and pay for the remainder of your term directly to the company. The next term you will either select a private insurance or remain with insurance.
