Peer Advisors Team
What is the Peer Advisor Program?
The Peer Advisor Team was established for each of the five schools at the UT Health Science Center to provide support and assistance for incoming students. Peer Advisors help new students smoothly transition, both socially and academically.
Our Team:
Peer Advisors 2012-2013
Our Goal:
To ensure student success and enhance student learning and development. Peer Advisors accomplish this by being available to students and forming relationships within their peer groups.
Who We Are?
Peer advisors are students who are interested in helping their peers adapt to a new environment and succeed while in professional school. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate success as students. They are able to set realistic goals for themselves and others. Previous mentoring/advising experience is preferred but not required.
When And How Are Advisors Selected?
Interested students should complete and return a basic application and will be contacted by Student Life to schedule an interview with the Director of Student Life and the Student Life Program Coordinator. Peer Advisor Team Training dates will be determined at a later date.
How Does The Program Work?
Peer Advisors’ first responsibility is to attend and participate in Peer Advisor Team training followed by orientation for their school. Peer Advisors plan and coordinate evening social activities during orientation week. During the semester, they plan organized meetings in classrooms, social settings, and/or make regular visits to student classrooms or labs. Peer Advisors are given a budget to sponsor social events (i.e., candy before Halloween or Valentine's Day, pizza for a meeting, etc).
