Peer Advisors

What is the Peer Advisor Program?

The Peer Advisor Program was established for each of the five schools at the HSC to provide support and assistance for incoming students. Peer Advisors help new students smoothly transition, both socially and academically.

Our Goal: To ensure student success and enhance student learning and development. Peer Advisors accomplish this by being available to students and forming relationships within their peer groups.

Who are they?
Students who are interested in helping their peers adapt to a new environment and succeed while in school. Applicants must be in good academic standing and demonstrate success as students. They are able to set realistic goals for themselves and others; and have previous helping/advising experience, such as camp counselor, tutor, residence hall advisor, etc.

When and how are Advisors selected?

Student Life accepts Peer Advisor applications in February of each year. Interested students complete a basic application and schedule an interview with the Director of Student Life and the Student Life Program Coordinator. Peer Advisors will be in place by April and there will be one day of training prior to new student orientation.

How does the program work?
Peer Advisors' first responsibility is to attend and participate in orientation for their school. During the semester, they plan organized meetings in classrooms, social settings, and/or make regular visits to student classrooms or labs. Peer Advisors are given a budget to sponsor social events. (i.e., candy before Halloween or Valentine's Day, pizza for a meeting, etc.)

If you are interested in the Peer Advisor Program, please contact Tabitha Byrne, Student Life Program Coordinator or Lisa McDougle, Director of Student Life.
