The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio thanks you for your service to our country and we hope to provide a level of service and atmosphere that conveys our appreciation.
Over 300 veterans, military personnel and/or their dependents are currently furthering their education at the Health Science Center. We offer a wide range of majors and support programs that help lead to your success in this pursuit.

Health Science Center Services for Student Veterans
The UT Health Science Center San Antonio offers many specific programs and opportunities for the veteran who chooses to enroll on our campus. These have been established and continue to be enhanced in recognition of the contributions that veterans have made in service to our country and that they continue to make as members of the Health Science Center family.
Student Organization (Veterans of UTHSCSA):
We are attempting to create a student group on campus. The Director of Veteran Service and Financial Aid will sponsor the group. This group gives our veterans and those still serving a venue to come together to socialize, have a stronger voice on campus, participate in civic outreach, organize to send care packages to marines/soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and raise and donate money to “Canines for Combat Vets.” Another goal might be to become members of Student Veterans of America, a national student veterans group.
Veterans Advocate:
This position acts as a liaison between students, campus departments, the VA, and other government and outside agencies. Students can work with the Veterans Advocate to get questions and issues resolved. The Veterans Advocate can also assist with initiating the Montgomery GI Bill, and calls to and returns from active duty. The Veterans Advocate is a one-stop-shop for our veterans/military students. The Veterans Advocate is also responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the veterans programs on campus.
Veterans Tuition Waivers:
The Texas National Guard and Reserves can help their members pay for tuition and fees. There are also a variety of tuition exemptions and waivers offered to Veterans and their dependents though the Hazlewood and other programs. Please refer to the page links at the top of this page.
Specific Department Contacts:
We are developing specific department contacts to work with our veterans/military students. These contacts will be listed on our veteran’s Web site. These contacts have an understanding of the needs of our veterans and can help you navigate your way through the Health Science Center.
